The short version
Thirty-second read- The mandate
- Rainbow Faith and Freedom's brochures and social collateral had to carry a difficult argument into rooms where the reader may not agree yet: congregations, funders, community partners and policymakers, in more than one language.
- The insight
- Structured the editorial hierarchy to balance faith-based messaging with LGBTQ2S+ advocacy, ensuring critical resources remained readable in a compact print format
- My role + craft
- Brochure design, Layout, Print · for Rainbow Faith & Freedom · 2024. Concept, direction and hands-on execution.
- The result
- A modular brochure and social system reused across multiple international markets and languages
01Brief
Rainbow Faith and Freedom's brochures and social collateral had to carry a difficult argument into rooms where the reader may not agree yet: congregations, funders, community partners and policymakers, in more than one language. Printed collateral for an international nonprofit is a fixed cost, so every page had to earn its place, work in translation, and be usable by volunteers handing it out at events with no designer nearby.
02Approach
- 01Structured the editorial hierarchy to balance faith-based messaging with LGBTQ2S+ advocacy, ensuring critical resources remained readable in a compact print format
- 02Applied a clean typographic system and a distinct colour hierarchy to guide the reader through social-justice arguments without visual clutter
- 03Edited the advocacy copy to strip away academic jargon, focusing instead on clear, action-oriented language for community members and potential donors
- 04Managed the pre-press print production using Adobe InDesign, selecting a tactile paper stock suitable for high-use community distribution
03Outcomes
- A modular brochure and social system reused across multiple international markets and languages
- Print and digital versions from one layout system, avoiding duplicate design work per market
- Volunteer-usable collateral that keeps one voice at events, in congregations and in funder meetings
- Difficult subject matter presented so faith audiences engage rather than disengage
